Miscellaneous USA

You will note that many United States Companies OEM'd some of their slide rule models from other countries. This is not a practice employed by the other countries themselves (i.e. buying from the USA and put their name on them). It was probably less from national pride as it was a method of the United States in helping to rebuild European and Japanese economies after WWII and in some cases, like Post and Dietzgen, to renew their relationships as it was before the war.

Contributed by Shell Thuet in 2007 (See Webpage). Professional Motorcycle race tuner. Shell Thuet was inducted in the American Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2001. The Nomination Letter written by Mike Konshak, one of his past racers, who is also the curator of the Slide Rule Museum and also the author of Shell Thuet's Biography. Shell built and tuned winning Indian Scouts, Enfield's and Yamahas. See also his Pickett 800-ES

In the MIT Museum, an internal letter dated January 20th, 1943 and signed A.W. Keuffel, the letter reads: "Herewith a Slide Rule known as a Vest Pocket Slide Rule made by Guedon, Camden, New Jersey. I do not think they will have much success selling this rule, because of the inherent disadvantages this metal rules has over our regular Pocket Slide Rule. Nevertheless, at the wholesale price of $.50. I do not see how they are able to make this article. After you have examined it, turn it over to Mr. Schneider for filing with the samples."

Rick used this in 5th grade (11 years old) which inspired him toward a career in engineering. He works at Sun Microsystems.
